Fundraising Event Request Process. When a fundraising event request is made, the decision whether to undertake the event will be made by the Foundation Event Selection Committee.
The Foundation Event Selection Committee will endeavor to
make decisions and communicate them to the initiator or initiating
group within 30-45 days. Decisions will be made by the VP
of Development, the Event Manager, the Foundation Capital
Campaign Director, the Director of Strategic Marketing and
the Director of Communications who will meet on the third
Thursday of the month to review all applications and recommend
action based on the following. (Applications
must be submitted by the second Thursday of the month.)
Signature Events
A major event involving numerous volunteers
and staff designed to highlight a key DCH site/program where
philanthropy plays a major role. These events are considered
in the development of the Foundation budget. Major staff time
is allocated to these events. These events are held annually,
generally at the same time of the year, and should return
twice their costs in year one with an improved ratio as the
event matures. Net income from the event should always achieve
a minimum of $250,000.
Special Events
An event that may
involve numerous volunteers and staff designed to highlight
a key DCH site/program where philanthropy plays a major role.
These events are part of the Foundation budget. Major staff
time is allocated to these events. These events are held annually,
generally at the same time of the year, and typically return
more than twice their costs in year one with a marginally
improved ratio as the event matures. Net income from the event
should always achieve a minimum of $25,000.
Turnkey Events
An approved event conducted completely by community leadership
requiring little or no staff involvement or budget for the
purpose of raising money. The role of the Foundation staff
in a turnkey event is typically approving the event, approving
the use of a logo and any copy involving the DCH name, banner
placement at the event, and picking up the check. Though on
occasion turnkey events may achieve more than $25,000, net
income from the event typically achieves less than $25,000,
but should always achieve a minimum of $10,000.
Promotional Fundraising Event
An approved event conducted completely
by community leadership requiring little or no staff involvement
and no budget for the purpose of raising money. The role of
the Foundation staff in a promotional event is typically approving
the event, approving the use of a logo and any copy involving
the DCH name, banner placement, and picking up the check.
(A for-profit company utilizing the DCH name as a charitable
beneficiary for the purpose of promoting increased sales with
the Foundation receiving a certain percentage of those sales
within a defined time period would be considered a promotional
event.) Net income from promotional events should always achieve
a minimum of $10,000 and/or at least 25% of gross sales.
