Think back to your twelfth birthday. Do you remember what you wanted most as a present? A shiny new bicycle to go faster than your neighborhood playmates? A fun board game that made noise and had flashing lights? A new outfit to impress the others at school? Did you consider asking for others to give to a cause instead of receiving gifts? Most children do not. But Anna Grace Godoy is not like most children. Earlier this summer, Anna Grace sent birthday invitations to her friends and family and asked that, instead of gifts, they make donations to DCH’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Fund. Family and friends responded generously and over $600 was given on her behalf.
This unselfish endeavor is not so unremarkable when you learn a little more about this thoughtful young lady. Anna Grace asked for this same gift two years earlier. She has also inspired a friend to knit gowns for preemie babies for the NICU area. Anna Grace’s care and concern for the NICU area began early while watching her father, Dr. Guillermo Godoy, work with young patients. That love has grown and Anna Grace’s compassion for the NICU area is heartwarming.
Anna Grace’s mother, Terri Godoy, is very proud of her daughter, calling Anna Grace a “busy young lady with a very big heart.” Anna Grace is a 7th grader at Rock Quarry Middle School and enjoys dancing. This summer she spent two weeks in London performing with the Royal Academy of London.
While it takes some people a lifetime to learn the importance of giving to others, Anna Grace has already cultivated this humble and very honorable lesson. The parents, staff and, most importantly, the patients of the NICU area will benefit from Anna Grace’s generosity.
The NICU Fund provides to assistance and support for the needs of newborns and families.
